Bridget Brandon is a consulting and testifying expert witness who has been qualified in both State and Federal court. Her specialty is in liability, valuation and fraud cases. Ms. Brandon brings experience in both the corporate and agricultural sectors to her practice and has been a lifelong passionate learner and participant in the equestrian industry. With over 30 years of experience showing in Hunter/Jumper and Dressage competitions at AA shows across the country, breeding, training and selling for the Sporthorse market, boarding horses and enjoying Fox Hunting and trail riding, Ms. Brandon brings an understanding of the business, showing and recreational side of the equine industry.
After spending almost two decades in the corporate world marketing new products and services from inception to the marketplace, Ms. Brandon spends 100% of her professional time combining her passion, knowledge, and experience with horses to helping individuals and companies. Though she had been appraising horses since 2001 as an appraiser with the American Society of Equine Appraisers, she started her own appraisal company in 2010, ValueMyHorse LLC, which has now grown into a breeding, consulting, and buyer/seller advocacy company. Due to her demand as an Expert Witness for liability, standards in the industry, fraud, appraisal specialists, and locating expert specialist for attorney’s, Bridget started The Equine Expert LLC, the first and only collaborative equine expert witness firm offering a “stable” of hand-picked experts specializing in a variety of specific fields in the equine industry. The firm has worked on high-profile cases to smaller niche cases, has testified overseas, and historically has been 50/50 working with both Plaintiff and Defendant.
Ms. Brandon has boarded horses on her three different farms since 1992. Horses have ranged from breeding stock, trail horses to top AA show horses. She has a full understanding of the boarding and training industry, as well as care, custody and control. Ms. Brandon has shown as an Amateur/Owner in the Hunters and High Amateur/Owner Jumpers up to 1.40 meters. She purchased Sinners Prayer as a new import from Europe, started her in the Pre-green Hunters to being ranked #2 in the country in Conformation Hunters. Sinners Prayer was also featured in the Chronicle of the Horse and was on the cover of The Plaid Horse. In the jumpers, Bridget has owned USEF Horse of the Year CR Andiamo and Cognac Gold. She has also bred and sold very successful Dressage horses to both amateur and professional riders across the country. One of her Farms was used for lessons and training by top rated big “R” Judge and trainer Russell Frey, as well as other well respected trainers and riders.
Ms. Brandon enjoys living on her third farm that she has built from scratch and consults with others on developing and managing their farms. She can work with raw land or someone who wants to improve an existing farm. She serves as advisor to assist her client in making the best decisions on where their money will be well spent and the safety of the horse and rider. She will also help find reputable vendors. Ms. Brandon was interviewed and quoted by Sotheby’s for their online International residential real estate magazine in an article titled, “Homes that Embody the Equestrian Spirit”, June 2021. Her most recent project was the equine consultant for the developer of a private 30-acre estate which developed an equestrian facility to house 6 horses for the family in the British West Indies. Her responsibility in the development of the stable was to provide insight into the care of the horses, safety for both horse and rider in the planning, designing, and development stages of the project.
She is often called upon to serve as a “Buyer or Seller Advocate” and will assist them through every step of the buying or seller process. As an Advocate, she has prevented buyers and sellers from making an uneducated or naive transaction, and has saved them thousands of dollars. In this role, she first gets to know the individual as a person, the skill level as an equestrian and knowledge in equine transactions, and what their goal or purpose is in buying or selling a horse. With no bias in the transaction, she can assist her client in looking objectively at what can quickly become a very subjective purchase or sale. Her goal is to assist buyers from paying overmarket, purchasing a lame horse, buying an appropriate horse, getting out of a pressured sale, assisting in the negotiating, making sure appropriate Bill of Sales and Pre-purchase Exams are completed, helping clients perform a business transaction with a trainer turned friend, recognizing what loose terminology means, and asking the tough questions. She is not a broker, but rather works with the clients who have brokers, but she also works with clients who want to buy horses on their own. Either way, her goal is to assist the buyer or seller from getting into trouble and to go through a fair transaction process.
She is an experienced breeder of German Oldenburg warmbloods, breeding top jumping and dressage horses selling to both professional and amateur competitors across the US. She currently boards retired show horses and breeding stock, and manages the breeding of imported Holsteiner stallion TriStarr (Crypso) and stands her American Quarter Horse Stallion, Skips Gold Bar, Jr. who is also her trail horse and fox hunting partner. She and a variety of her horses have been featured in The Chronicle of The Horse, The Plaid Horse, Lone Star Horse Report and Texas Hoofbeats.
Ms. Brandon is very involved in trail riding and is a member of Lake Ray Roberts Equestrian Trail Riding Association (LRRETA),Texas Equestrian Trail Riders Association (TETRA), Pilot Point’s Sherriff’s Posse, Equine Trail Sports South, a former board member of North Texas Search and Rescue (NTXSR). She is also involved in Brazos Valley Fox Hunting Club and has volunteered at various times for Victory Therapy riding and Equest. She has judged for the North Texas H/J Club and was a former Board Member.
Ms. Brandon also served on Internationally renowned and USEF Horseman of the Year Tom McCutcheon’s Advisory Board from 2009-2012. Tom is a world-renowned Reiner and 2011 USEF Horseman of the Year and World Equestrian Game Team and Individual Gold Winner 2010. He has also been featured on “Yellowstone”. With Tom McCutcheon, Bridget developed and launched Tom McCutcheon’s VirtualHorseHelp.com, an online training site and inside look at top Performance Horse professionals. The goal of the online training website is to provide equestrians who keep their horses at home the ability to access top trainers across the country and learn a variety of training techniques. Topics would include nutrition, working with young horses, starting horses, trailering, trail riding, safety around horses, horse maintenance, farm maintenance, equine health, and a host of other topics.
