Yerzhan Kumarov is the Managing Partner of the KM & Partners practice. Mr. Kumarov has an extensive experience in representing domestic and international companies in structuring cross-border investment and financial projects over a wide spectrum of industries. Yerzhan Kumarov has an active practice providing legal counsel in the areas of banking, project and infrastructure finance, debt restructuring, antitrust (anti-monopoly), securitisation and general corporate matters. His clients include international banks, multilateral financial organizations, global investment banks, major corporations and credit rating agencies.
Yerzhan Kumarov also advises strategic investors in the exploration, development and production of minerals, with the establishment of joint ventures, as well as with the acquisition and sale of equity or assets. His clients retain him for his specialist regulatory advice covering financing, title, licensing and the operational aspects of mining and energy transactions. Yerzhan is ranked by the Chambers Global 2012 Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers in the category of general business law which describes market observers as stating “He has a lot of knowledge and understands the interests of his client. The history of the KM & Partners in Kazakhstan dates back to 1994 when its founders together with the Macleod Dixon law firm which was established in Canada in 1912 found its branch office in Almaty. The Almaty office of the Macleod Dixon law firm had among other the following clients on board:
large international and national companies;
state bodies;
Government organizations; and
International financial institutions (i.e., IFC, Eurasian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development).
Macleod Dixon became one of the first international law firm officially accredited in the Republic of Kazakhstan. For many years of practice the Almaty office of Macleod Dixon law firm has earned a reliable reputation as a competent and indispensable partner of its numerous clients not only in Kazakhstan but also in Central Asia and the CIS countries.
In 2012 Macleod Dixon merged with the global giant in the legal services market with around 4 000 lawyers in more than 50 countries – the international law firm Norton Rose Fulbright.
In 2017 KM & Partners due to the global changes in the world practice of providing professional legal services became the successor of many years of practice of Macleod Dixon and Norton Rose Fulbright in Kazakhstan.
