In our new portion of news, we review the last batch of changes to the tax and social security legislation, adopted in the end of 2023. Among the more notable to mention would be:

       •  The new threshold for VAT registration (effective from 1 January 2025),

      • The introduced statutory recognized expenses for income from sale or exchange of financial assets, including virtual currencies and trading in foreign currencies,

      •  Amendments to the local patent tax regime and

      •   Tax relief for energy efficient buildings.

In addition, the minimum and maximum social security income thresholds have been also increased to catch up on the increase of the minimum wage.
