We have expanded our international arbitration group with the hire of Karel Daele and Elizabeth Montpetit.
News of Karel and Elizabeth’s appointments were announced earlier this year, in September, and both lawyers have now joined the firm following completion of their notice periods.
Elizabeth joins the firm as Senior Counsel from Mishcon de Reya and Karel has joined as a partner after nine years at the firm as the Head of Arbitration. He has particular expertise in investor state work, which is an area the firm is investing in and will add significantly value to its offering in the international arbitration market with the strength of its experts across its network, including Donata Freiin von Enzberg and Nick Storrs.
Both Karel and Elizabeth will be based in London.
International Head of Disputes & Investigations Andrew Howell said: “Karel and Elizabeth’s expertise significantly enhances our arbitration offering across our international network. It’s an exciting opportunity for the team, particularly with the enhanced support in investment treaty work we can provide through Karel’s many years of experience.”
UK Managing Partner Shane Gleghorn said: “We’re seeing an increasing demand for lawyers who have a track-record of success in respect of complex international arbitrations. We continue to invest in our disputes and investigations group because of the increasing client demand, and the appointments of Karel and Elizabeth significantly strengthens our team so that we can provide the highest quality of representation for our clients.”
The appointment follows the recent promotions in the firm’s disputes and investigations group of Stephen O’Grady and Ed Spencer to Senior Counsel earlier this year and Stuart Broom to the partnership in 2020, and the more recent hires of Richard Viegas and Lucy Waddicor who joined the firm earlier this month from Collyer Bristow.
