Orrick announced today that Joe Walker, one of the nation’s leading white collar and regulatory compliance advisers and former U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) trial lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner in Washington, D.C.

Joe is on the short-list of go-to lawyers in guiding companies through complex global government investigations, with particular focus on matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). His FCPA work has included representing major financial institutions in enforcement matters and serving as a DOJ- and SEC-appointed FCPA compliance monitor for Weatherford International as well as counsel to the monitor in the first-ever FCPA monitorship by an arm of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Joe draws on his background as a prosecutor in the DOJ’s Criminal Division, Fraud Section, where he led high-profile cases, including serving as lead prosecutor in the first joint FCPA enforcement action between the SEC and DOJ – now widely viewed as establishing the template for FCPA enforcement actions.

“We are honored to add a practitioner of Joe’s stature to our white collar and government investigations team at a time when our clients face new and more complex regulatory enforcement challenges,” said Orrick Chairman Mitch Zuklie. “We anticipate accelerated change in this area and Joe will be an extraordinary asset for our clients.”

Added Guy Singer, “Joe has a stellar reputation in the DC white collar bar. He is a long-time colleague and friend and we are thrilled that he is joining our team.” Joe joins Orrick from Squire Patton Boggs.

“I’m incredibly proud of the team at Squire Patton Boggs and wish them the best,” said Joe. “I’m equally excited to join Orrick and to collaborate with Guy, Anne MurrayRob SternJeff Coopersmith and others to build on the firm’s global platform and top-tier practice serving institutions in the tech, life sciences, energy & infrastructure and finance sectors.”
