Specialist financial services regulatory boutique, McDonnell Ellis LLP, has made its fourth partner hire since its establishment in 2020. Richard Ellis joins from the Financial Services Regulation & Funds practice of Charles Russell Speechlys. An expert in financial services regulation, Richard has a particular interest in fintech and insurance.
The hire follows that in May of Paul Dodd, ex-regulatory counsel at Simpson Thatcher. McDonnell Ellis LLP is the UK’s only specialist FS regulatory law firm partnership. As well as serving a wide range of financial services firms, its work increasingly involves supporting law firms without, or with insufficient, regulatory capability.
Brian McDonnell said: “We are delighted to be joined by Richard who significantly adds to our bench strength as we manage an increasing number of mandates from law firms. As the UK’s only specialist FS regulatory law firm, we find ourselves uniquely placed to collaborate with other law firms enabling those firms to engage in more complex FS transactions for clients.”.
“Our lawyers have all worked for long periods in City law firms. They have in depth industry knowledge and have spent time in-house or working for the FCA. They are deeply engaged in regulatory development, including the City of London Law Society Regulatory Committee. Our experience means that we understand FS business and can share practical solutions that we have seen work before as well as develop new legal approaches”.
