Sonia Torres is a former Naval Judge Advocate and a former Chief of the Criminal Division for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico. In 2011, she co-founded Meléndez Torres Law, PSC, eventually becoming its managing partner. Sonia’s practice is focused on regulatory and compliance matters (financial and health sectors), corporate internal investigations, complex civil litigation, securities, and defending individuals and corporations in criminal, regulatory and forfeiture proceedings. She has argued many appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and conducted many trials. As a seasoned investigator, she has conducted FCPA investigations and corporate investigations in the United States and across Latin America. She is fluent in English and Spanish and has working knowledge of Portuguese. In criminal matters, Sonia has successfully represented clients charged with conspiracy, honest service fraud, mail and wire fraud, federal government bribery and theft, health care related offenses, and money laundering. Sonia is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a Leader for the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association (WWCDA).
